Expenses (2023-2024)

At The Gaza Fund, we have a strict 100% Donation Policy.

8 October 2023 – 30 September 2024: To ensure this goal, we at The Gaza Fund track and separate all our expenses, which is paid for, by us, from our own pocket, rather than the donations received.

Over the last twelve months, (8 October 2023 – 30 September 2024), we raised HK$1,561,763 for Gaza with 100% spent on the poor and needy in Gaza.

8 Oct 2023- 30 Sept 2024HK$US$£
TOTAL RAISED1,561,763201,135151,414

We also incurred at least HK$109,202 (£10,920 or US$14,000) in expenses involving bank transfers, cash transfers, transport, drivers, accounting, auditing, administration, website, photos, videos and banners for donor reporting. To ensure, aid is being properly spent, we also had to pay real volunteers on the ground. However 100% of the expenses were paid for by us, The Gaza Fund.

While we have maintained a reasonably high standard of disclosure since the beginning (29 January 2021), we will continue to raise our disclosure standards further by exceeding statutory requirements, now that we are a registered company (since June 2023). Our full audited financial report will be published in late January 2025.

MARKETING POLICIES:

1. We understand our limitations and do not claim to be able to help all 2.3 million residents of Gaza but we are committed to doing whatever we can.

2. Our goal is not to raise record amounts year-after-year. This is partially why we have zero social media presence. Keep our heads down and focus on delivering cash aid, food aid packs, cash handouts, medicine, and whatever else is needed.

3. Our goal is to focus on the people of Gaza. We will continue to (A) regularly review all our projects; (B) (re)questioning its impact; & (C) remain mission-driven.

EXPENSES IN 2023-2024:

The last 12 months have been incredibly difficult. While sending money and organising aid in Gaza has always been difficult, the war made things very dangerous, difficult and challenging for charities, big and small. In 2023, we incurred substantial expenses in sizeable bank and broker fees in order to send money into Gaza, as all banks were closed. The quickest way to send money to Gaza was to pay such exorbitant broker fees. The other cheaper option was to use multiple bank accounts of individuals we know and others we got to know, vetted and verified – to comply with regulations from a governance perspective. In any case, all measures were put in place to comply with our regulatory policies.

EXPENSES IN 2023:

In 2023, we had the usual range of expenses (HK$28,191) including website, company registration, cash transfer fees, token payments to volunteers in Gaza, etc., Most notably we set aside a HK$12,000 token payment to an IT expert to help build a front to backend donor management system that details how much every single donor has donated, purpose and when. This is expected to go live in the 1Q of 2024.

EXPENSES IN 2022:

In 2022, as donations received nearly halved, our expenses (HK$17,081) fell by one-third. Apart from the unavoidable cash transfer fees and token payments to volunteers (for food aid packs and cash handouts) accounting for a large portion of our expenses, we bought a large cooker and oven for a soup kitchen which continues to cook food for those in need.

We incurred substantial expenses in 2021 (HK$53,838) while setting up in Gaza, including transport, banners, photography, videos, cash transfer fees, token payments to volunteers and engineers for the procurement, monitoring and installation of advanced water filters across multiple locations in Gaza, as well as during the disbursement of cash handouts (involving independent background checks of volunteers), etc., among other expenses. Again, we have a 100% donation policy and every single expense was shouldered and paid for, by the founder of The Gaza Fund.
